2011 Grande Premio Historico do Porto 17-19 June
Seems every weekend we have another major classic motorsport festival in Europe …… This time the action moves to northern Portugal where The Masters is organising two days of racing around the streets of the second largest city, Porto, situated on the River Douro and just inland from the Atlantic coast.
Friday 17 June is given over to free practice with qualifying beginning after lunch and continuing on Saturday morning. Racing proper starts at 11.10 with eight races, finishing at 18.30. Sunday kicks off at 09.00 and apart from a short lunch break provides uninterrupted action until the event closes down at 17.25.
The programme includes:
Gentleman Drivers (pre-66 GT)
Formula Junior
Pre-66 Touring Cars and Touring 70s
GP Masters GP Historico do Porto
ANPAC Cup Classics
Masters Sports Prototypes
World Sportscar Masters
The city of Porto is well served from the UK with flights out of Gatwick by easyJet and Ryanair or TAP from London Heathrow. It is possible to depart on Saturday morning in time to arrive at the circuit by eleven o’clock in time to watch the racing. Hotels are available to suit all pockets and there’s plenty of space. On-line ticket purchase closed on31 May so I’m afraid it’s pay on the gate.
Weather is 74 degrees and sunshine on Sunday, with dry and sunny periods beforehand.
