BOOK REVIEW  By Peter Baker

Coachbuilt Cars: Jaguar XK 120 Supersonic by Ghia

Futuristic, daring, very quick, and very Italian, is the best way the to describe the Jaguar XK 120 Supersonic by Ghia, surely one of motoring’s greatest classics.

That it also heads up this new series ‘Coachbuilt Cars’ published by Porter Press International comes as no surprise. After all, Philip Porter’s passion for all things Jaguar is unrivalled. As is the natural enthusiasm author Richard Heseltine self-declares for anything displaying an Italian badge.

The result is a superb, if somewhat compact, fact-laden story, printed on high quality paper and profusely illustrated. This stunningly beautiful and obviously unique Jaguar XK 120 Supersonic by Ghia, Chassis number 679768, sold via RM Sotheby in 2015 for USD2 million. It was purchased by American businessman Mr. William E ‘Bill’ Heinecke, who has both Villa d’Este and Pebble Beach concours firmly in mind.

Why such a compelling read is compacted into just 108 pages I have no idea. Great value, but leaves you wanting more.
