JOCHEN RINDT – UNCROWNED KING OF FORMULA 1

Four-hundred-and-eighty pages, plus plenty of pictures, all wrapped up in a paperback costing just £14.99. A genuine bargain.

Some say Rindt was a madman, others that, had he not died at Monza in 1970, he would have gone on to repeat his World Champion status several times. Both are probably true. I watched Rindt in action, and one thing was for sure, with Jochen around life was never boring. Of course, in the sixties the sport demanded flexibility. He won at Le Mans in 1965, sharing a Ferrari 250LM with Masten Gregory, and during his short nine-year career, 29 Formula 2 races.

We are left pondering the question: Would today’s drivers have been as exciting? No, but they might have lived longer.
