ADMISSION 7/6 – E.V. STARR SNAPS THE 60S SPEED MERCHANTS

A series of stunning images taken by a very skilled Edgar Vernon Starr, and purchased by Tim Beavis at auction back in 2004, form the basis of this engaging work, that offers a superb read at a bargain price.

Following a comprehensive Foreword by Derek Bell MBE, the 128 pages take the reader on a most remarkable trip back through the sixties. None of the pictures, all in colour, have been published before, and they tell a great story, involving the likes of Chapman, Clark, Surtees, McLaren, Brabham and, of course, Derek Bell, along with their cars and the circuits where they raced. Captions in themselves sometimes run into chapter length, one gets the impression, once into gear our two authors were unable to stop.

I have spent many an hour trapped in the same car as Guy Loveridge and can assure you, nobody eulogises his subject with as much volume, enthusiasm or depth of knowledge. Both he and Tim Beavis have been Guild of Motoring Writers award winners and it shows.

Have I got any complaints? Yes. The book needs to be longer. Maybe a second volume is in the offing. If so, I’ll be first in the queue. A brilliant addition to anyone’s library, five stars, and the perfect Christmas present. But hurry, it’s a limited production run of just 400, all signed.
