BOOK REVIEW  By Peter Baker

Porter Profiles: Jaguar XK 120 – The story of 660725

At just £20 this book, published by Porter Press International to the same very high standard as its top end publications, really does represent great value-for-money.

Written by Simon Ham, it tells the intriguing story of one car, a Jaguar XK 120, chassis number 660725, that has survived 60 years in the same ownership. Bob Henderson purchased the car in Kuala Lumpur during 1951, while serving in the Far East. Since then, it has been moved around the world, raced, rallied and shot at, before being restored in the UK and eventually sold on. Although fitted with disc brakes, plus a turbo-charger, original parts were thankfully included in the price.

Unlike many books, waffle is negligible, just a two-page introduction, a quick intro and then off we go. And it comes with plenty of period, personal images, including one of girlfriend Connie MacGregor, a former Miss Malaya contestant, plus a nice set of studio-posed close-up images of what we now know as MOW 523. Easy reading and on sale now. Five stars.
