50 Years With Ferraris: Photographer Neill Bruce’s story of a lifetime working with Maranello Concessionaires Book review by Peter Baker
Not many photographers can claim to have worked first with ‘Woman’s Own’ magazine before joining Ferrari, or to be more precise, Maranello Concessionaires.
Neill started on 1 January 1971, and stayed until ‘booted out’ (his words not mine) sometime in 1995. His first assignment involved the only UK Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider, framed in black and white. The car, and his pictures, appeared at the London Motor Show. In 1973 he was invited to Italy where, accompanied by Frank Sytner and the legendary importer Colonel Ronnie Hoare, Neill came face-to-face with the Commendatore, who allowed himself to be captured without his usual sunglasses.
There is just enough text throughout to keep the reader interested, which is great, because in my view the very best image, that of a mischievous Michael Salmon, appears on the very last page.
Not the best book ever published by Evro, but if you love Ferrari pictures, then at just £45.00 it may represent something of a bargain. Maybe an early Christmas present for the man/woman who drives red cars.
