Motor Day Salburgring. 2025. Roman Klemm

Friday 18th July 2025

CLOSE REPORT
Motor Day 2025" at Salzburgring:

Young Tigers Joined by Veterans. Words: Roman Klemm Senior / Pictures: Roman Klemm Junior.

On the first weekend of June 'Motor Day' attracted not only young drivers from the CEZ Formula 4 and TCR series to the super-fast Salzburgring, but also a substantial community showcasing historical vehicles and sports personalities. Our photographs captured how restorer and racer Rudi Raml from Linz tried out his latest acquisition, the Wolf-Ford WR1, for the first time, with which Jody Scheckter won in Monaco in 1977. Jack Brabhams marque was represented by two F2 cars from the 1960s, as were several Ralts F3, a plethora of Lola Formula-V racers, a Tecno F2, an Osella sportscar, and some Kaiman-Super-Vee in memory of the unforgettable Jo Gartner.

The unmistakable personality in the paddock was His Highness Prince Leopold of Bavaria. Once a top driver in DTM and Le Mans, he showcased the progressive technology of using synthetic e-fuel with his orange BMW 3.0 CSL. In the cockpit, he was joined by Olympic bobsled champion from Albertville 1992, Ingo Appelt.
Also present were Arno Zensen (formerly the boss of the Rosberg racing team) and Axel Water (formerly the manager of Jo Winkelhock and Heinz-Harald Frentzen). Even bnikes were in action. A racing Yamaha 250 was driven around the dangerous track by the legend of ice flat track and SuperMoto, Franky Zorn. And all of that was just an appetizer: let's look forward to the Legends Grand Prix on the first weekend of October 2025, which is expected to attract dozens of F1 cars and other interesting exhibits to the Salzburg Ring...
